Citrus fruits (orange, lemon, mandarin, and grapefruit) are one of the most extensively cultivated crops. Actually, fresh consumption far exceeds the demand and, subsequently, a great volume of the production is destined for the citrus-processing industries, which produce a huge quantity of co-products. These co-products, without proper treatment and disposal, might cause severe environmental problems. The co-products obtained from the citrus industry may be considered a very important source of high-added-value bioactive compounds that could be used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and dietetic industries, and mainly in the food industry. Due to consumer demands, the food industry is exploring a new and economical source of bioactive compounds to develop novel foods with healthy properties. Thus, the aim of this review is to describe the possible benefits of citrus co-products as a source of bioactive compounds and their applications in the development of healthier meat and meat products. After tooth extraction, the alveolar ridge undergoes dimensional changes. Different bone regeneration biomaterials are used to reduce bone loss. The aim of this article was to systematically review the literature on the effect of injectable synthetic biomaterials and their advantages and disadvantages for new bone formation in the maxilla and mandible in animals and humans. A literature search was conducted in November 2020 via MEDLINE PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase. Of the 501 records screened, abstract analysis was performed on 49 articles, resulting in 21 studies that met the inclusion criteria. Animal studies have shown heterogeneity in terms of animal models, follow-up time, composition of the injectable biomaterial, and different outcome variables such as bone-implant contact, newly formed bone, and peri-implant bone density. Heterogeneity has also been demonstrated by human studies. The following outcomes were observed newly formed bone, connective tissue, residual injectable bone graft substitute, radiographic density, residual bone height, and different follow-up periods. Further studies, especially in humans, based on the histological and biomechanical properties of the injectable delivery form, are needed to draw more concrete conclusions that will contribute to a better understanding of the benefits of this type of biomaterials and their role in bone regeneration.Glycyrrhiza glabra, commonly known as liquorice, contains several bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, sterols, triterpene, and saponins; among which, glycyrrhizic acid, an oleanane-type saponin, is the most abundant component in liquorice root. Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is one of the major complications of diabetes mellitus, leading to painful condition as neuropathic pain. The pathogenetic mechanism of diabetic peripheral neuropathy is very complex, and its understanding could lead to a more suitable therapeutic strategy. In this work, we analyzed the effects of ammonium glycyrrhizinate, a derivate salt of glycyrrhizic acid, on an in vitro system, neuroblastoma cells line SH-SY5Y, and we observed that ammonium glycyrrhizinate was able to prevent cytotoxic effect and mitochondrial fragmentation after high-glucose administration. In an in vivo experiment, we found that a short-repeated treatment with ammonium glycyrrhizinate was able to attenuate neuropathic hyperalgesia in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. Belvarafenib In conclusion, our results showed that ammonium glycyrrhizinate could ameliorate diabetic peripheral neuropathy, counteracting both in vitro and in vivo effects induced by high glucose, and might represent a complementary medicine for the clinical management of diabetic peripheral neuropathy.Recently, there has been growing demand for GPS-based reliable positioning, with the broadening of a range of new applications that mainly rely on GPS. GPS receivers have, recently, been attractive targets for jamming. GPS signals are received below the noise floor. Thus, they are vulnerable to interference and jamming. A jamming signal can potentially decrease the SNR, which results in disruption of GPS-based services. This paper aims to propose a reliable and accurate, swept anti-jamming technique based on high-resolution spectral analysis, utilizing the FOS method to provide an accurate spectral estimation of the GPS swept jamming signal. resulting in suppressing the jamming signal efficiently at the signal processing stages in the GPS receiver. Experiments in this research are conducted using the SpirentTM GSS6700 simulation system to create a fully controlled environment to test and validate the developed method’s performance. The results demonstrated the proposed method’s capabilities to detect, estimate, and adequately suppress the GPS swept jamming signals. After the proposed anti-jamming module was employed, the software receiver was able to provide a continuous positioning solution during the presence of jamming within a 10 m positioning accuracy. For the formation of nano-scale Ge channels in vertical Gate-all-around field-effect transistors (vGAAFETs), the selective isotropic etching of Ge selective to Ge0.8Si0.2 was considered. In this work, a dual-selective atomic layer etching (ALE), including Ge0.8Si0.2-selective etching of Ge and crystal-orientation selectivity of Ge oxidation, has been developed to control the etch rate and the size of the Ge nanowires. The ALE of Ge in p+-Ge0.8Si0.2/Ge stacks with 70% HNO3 as oxidizer and deionized (DI) water as oxide-removal was investigated in detail. The saturated relative etched amount per cycle (REPC) and selectivity at different HNO3 temperatures between Ge and p+-Ge0.8Si0.2 were obtained. In p+-Ge0.8Si0.2/Ge stacks with (110) sidewalls, the REPC of Ge was 3.1 nm and the saturated etching selectivity was 6.5 at HNO3 temperature of 20 °C. The etch rate and the selectivity were affected by HNO3 temperatures. As the HNO3 temperature decreased to 10 °C, the REPC of Ge was decreased to 2 nm and the selectivity remained at about 7.4. Finally, the application of ALE in the formation of Ge nanowires in vGAAFETs was demonstrated where the preliminary Id-Vds output characteristic curves of Ge vGAAFET were provided.
